Spree- July 10th- July 12th

posted 2 Jul 2015, 10:40 by Crossways Dorking

What is Spree?

Spree is a weekend event for youth groups run by Urban Saints, a national organisation that supports Christian youth and children’s work. Now in its 23rd year, Spree offers programme of brilliant activities, plus an inspirational spiritual programme where young people can explore the Christian faith.

How does it work?

Youth groups arrive after school on the Friday and pitch their tents. Spree then provides a BBQ for everyone and the activities begin. The first of the meetings takes place that evening.

Throughout the Saturday the Spree team run a host of activities for the young people to engage with, including a variety of team activities and sports. Mid-morning and early evening there are meetings with Christian worship and teaching. Groups cater for themselves during the day.

Sunday is more of the same in the morning, but after lunch there is a final gathering of the whole camp to round off the weekend before everyone goes home.

Accommodation and Catering

Groups have to provide their own tents and manage their own catering for the weekend (except Friday night when Spree provides a BBQ for everyone). Toilets and showers are available.

If you are new to Spree, or a small group, contact the team and we can arrange for you to camp with another group, maybe even sharing some facilities.   Coming with a neighbouring group; let us know and we’ll make sure you are next to each other in the same camp zone.

We’re planning a packed programme of fun activities starting as always with the traditional BBQ on Friday evening right through to the final meeting on Sunday afternoon.  Most of the old favourites will be back, with some new things too.  Don’t forget the sports competitions, better get in training now!

This year there will be three meetings for your young people to attend, bringing God alive for the young people and challenging them to take the next step, or even their first step with God.   Harbour Church Folkestone will be leading the junior age group, Street 360 are returning to host the secondary age group, and new for this year over 15s are invited to join the service crew in their meetings.   In addition, there will be lots of space to meet with God in the prayer zone and evening worship times.

Where and When?

Spree South East 2015 starts on Friday 10th July (late afternoon, the event official kicks off at 5pm) and concludes on Sunday 12th July (about 3pm).  If you want to come early to pitch tents, let us know and can arrange this.

We’re really excited about our new site at the South of England Showground in Ardingly (just a few miles from Haywards Heath).  There is more camping space than ever before, so bring your whole group to enjoy the weekend.

Whatever the weather this is a brilliant site, masses of space for games and sports, flood-lit pitches, and the option to move the fun under cover when it all gets too wet.  Camping is easy too with roads around the site so you can drop heavy items right next to your pitches.  Best of all – no portaloos!

Who Can Come?

Youth groups from across the South East of England are invited to Spree.

Spree is for young people aged 8 to 15 years old. Young people must attend as part of a supervised group. Young people finishing school year 11 and older are invited to join the Service Crew Team. Service Crew, as the name suggests, serve the camp, helping to supervise and run activities for the young people.

Whilst Spree is a weekend camp, we do allow for groups to come for the day on the Saturday. As with a weekend booking please get in touch as soon as possible.

What Is The Cost?

Spree charges a booking fee for the weekend of £43 per person, with discounts for Service Crew and group caterers. It is usual that a youth group will charge individuals an additional amount to cover the cost of food and transport for the weekend - so ask your group leader to confirm the cost for you to come with your group.

How Do I Book?

Young people should speak to their group leader to book for Spree. Parents will be required to complete a consent form.

Please ask Sarah or Richard Harrington for more information about groups going from Dorking and CCBC.
